Mitchell Community College
Complete transformation of the 1960’s Rotary Auditorium into a modern lecture hall “smart” classroom and performance space that serves the College and community.
Project Approach
Fabric panels and wood panel finishes are selected for acoustic performance and durability, along with tablet arm fixed seating, to meet the College’s goals for a classroom but also a community auditorium. The Rotary’s old shell is completely renovated to provide reflector wall profiles on the side walls and a new stepped ceiling, both designed for the best sound performance. The original stage side entrance is modified with ramp access for the disabled Mid-century modern wood paneling in the lobby is maintained and new wood surfaces both match and contrast within the auditorium. Amenities include lighting on a programmable dimmer system, a state-of-the-art A/V system and a smart podium for full controllability, and full accessibility and hearing enhancement for the disabled.
The location of the hall on campus is on the lower floor of the existing library with a separate street entrance. The College has received commendation by users for this renovation of the Rotary to a modern auditorium in this historic college campus.
