We strive to be responsive in our working relationship with clients, as we are in our design and architecture.
EXPERIENCE
Our experience covers many project types, in both public and private sectors. Many of our public projects are for Education. Our firm has been continually engaged in at least one college project each year since our inception in 1998. We thrive on invention, creativity and collaboration. We are a talented design firm with strong ability in project execution. Our practice is not restricted to certain project types so we tend to bring a fresh and thoughtful approach to all our work. As a small firm all our projects receive the participation of the same team members throughout the project, assuring continuity of design and detail, and importantly, client relationship.
Our working relationship with several consultants with direct project experience gives us repeated opportunities to create the best architectural and consultant team, based on the project type and client needs.
PRINCIPAL INVOLVEMENT
The two principals and other team members of Mistri Hardaway Architects work side by side with the client throughout the life of the project. Both principals are involved in each project from start to finish but each has a different role to perform. Adi Mistri’s role includes responsibility for programming, planning, design, management and client contact throughout the project. Doug Hardaway’s role includes responsibility for project management, production, construction and client contact. We are staffed to successfully accomplish small to medium size projects, and also have experience and capability to do sizable and complex projects with collaborating professional partners.
SUSTAINABLE DESIGN
Sustainable design is good design. Mistri Hardaway Architects is a LEED Accredited firm. We enthusiastically support our clients’ initiative for a sustainably designed project. As design professionals we look for ways to design sustainably in a fundamental way, whether or not a formal achievement goal such as LEED is a requirement.
COST EFFECTIVE
We work hard to maximize the content of a project to satisfy the owner’s goal. Once a design direction is found, we manage design aspects and cost in various areas so that the two are balanced. This is not a straightforward conservative approach, because good buildings do not happen by formula. It is an ongoing holistic process, involving many with varied expertise. We work with an experienced estimator to continually relate design and cost to stay in budget. Our track record with maintaining budgets and schedules is excellent.

1. Education: The two partners Adi Mistri and Douglas Hardaway have designed with Mistri Hardaway Architects or with previous firms:
over 23 projects for 8 different Community Colleges
over 15 projects for 6 different NC Universities.
over 30 projects with the State Construction Office
We have developed an excellent working relationship with the North Carolina State Construction Office over many years working on SCO projects, for the University of North Carolina and North Carolina Community College System, and for other State Agencies.
2. High Tech/IT: Duke Energy Customer Service Center in Charlotte’s Research Park (Adi Mistri while Director of Design with JN Pease, architect of record); US Census Bureau Data Center (Doug Hardaway while with Gunn Hardaway), Design and engineering of the state of the art 38,000 SF, Level 7, Internet Data Center, 24/7 office and telecommunications facilities for Edge Communications (Adi Mistri and Doug Hardaway with Studio Paradigm); and multiple projects for EDS and Digital Realty Trust.
3. Restaurant/Entertainment: We have master planned and designed numerous projects at the NC Music Factory: Bask on Seaboard, The Fillmore, and Comedy Zone, and other projects. We have worked in collaboration to design Cosmos at Ballantyne and Phoenix/Pravda in Downtown Charlotte and Butter and OSSO at NC Music Factory.
