The Fillmore
Located at NCMF in Charlotte, Fillmore will be a performance venue for 2,000 people located within a remarkable brick and steel mill structure with a long central clear story.
Project Approach
A portable stage at one end, an open area stage front, and two step-up levels at the back, with a VIP area and bar at the side. Four additional bars are strategically located in perimeter areas with easy flow from the edge to the center of the space. A substantial back stage area includes amenities for artists and the organization’s business offices, loading dock, storage and support. Adjacent are two large restrooms accessible from the public performance space.
The design aesthetic is minimalist. The bones of the structure are exposed, original brick surfaces, and concrete floors sealed and finished. Acoustically, the space is tuned as needed with acoustic panels at strategic vertical and horizontal locations. Lighting is focused and specialized at the stage; space lighting is simple with feature lighting at focal points such as bars, stairs, entrances, retail area etc. In addition, three large chandilers bring focus to the long central clear story. Fillmore will be entered through a large portal at the end of a pedestrian ramp going up from the entrance parking area. Ticketing and check in will occur at this single portal. Other portals are for exiting only.
